Pan Am
Name:

Pan Am

Description:
This is the torch and oval variation of the Pan-Am logo. The torch and oval logo was the result of an internal competition among Standard of Indiana employees.

The torch had long been part of the Standard brand identity. The red white and blue oval was suggested by an employee in 1946. In one form or another it would last until the BP merger.
The Pan-Am brand would be replaced by Amoco in the 50s and American in the 60s, followed by a return to Amoco in the 80s.
